Northreach Session 3: Keep on the Shadowfell

After battling their way through the defenses, the group opened the final crypt and found a single sarcophagus. Upon opening it, there was an explosion and a skeletal guardian appeared and demanded to know who had disturbed it. Sora and Arjhen attempted to be diplomatic and convince the guardian that the group was present only to prevent the rift from being opened again. The guardian quizzed each of the party members apparently testing their intentions. After contemplating the answers it received the guardian decided that the group’s intentions were noble. The guardian named Petra was once a paladin of Bahamet assigned to guard the rift from being unsealed but in the end he failed and was buried in the keep. He gifts his magical longsword to Arjehn to help the group defeat the evil deeper in the keep. He also tells the group that they can spend the night in the crypt as it is warded against the guards and other minions attempting to open the seal.

After a night of rest, the group heads deeper into the keep finding runes. Sora attempts to throw Tinverton over them but fails. Both are sent into a fearful panic and run into the darkness. The group recovers and kills the zombies that attack them. Further into the ruins, the group runs across a group of hobgoblins and a spider which all but 1 are dispatched. After a nearly fatal tactical mistake the group alerts 2 more groups of hobgoblins who flanked the adventurers. Although the group was battered and beaten, they succeeded in defeating the hobgoblins.
