Background

Keagan J. Aelbrig Son of James Aelbrig and Lilliana Moonshade (estranged)

Beginnings

Raised by his Human father - James Aelbrig (smuggler, pirate captain and loving father =)

Lilliana Moonshade - youngest daughter of an aspiring (although low ranking) Elven noble house. Lilliana was lost at sea during a great storm and rescued by James. The two fell in love, and 'tho her family forbade them to see each other, managed to produce a child =) Her family was furious (and rather embarrassed). They locked her away, and hid the pregnancy from the other families. Lillianas family commanded her to cast the ill-gotten child into the sea, but her younger brother (Derimoor - Pirate, smuggler, great embarrassment to the family) helped her to smuggle Keagan to his father, where he grew up, having only faint memories of Lilliana and almost no knowledge of the turmoil surrounding his birth.

James and Lilliana have kept in secret contact with the help of Derimoor, and over the years Derimoor and James became great friends =)

Childhood

Keagan spent most of his childhood on board his fathers ship, the Dawn Rider. A small, fast smuggling vessel/pirate ship. His father also maintained a small shack in the docks district of Ravens Bluff (or Ylraphon, I'm undecided). It was here, in this poor and crime riddled area that Keagan learned to watch his back, and gained a general distrust of the rich and powerful (and learned to hate the fat crime lords who made their living from the suffering of the weak and downtrodden).

Music

Keagans earliest (and fondest) memories are of his mother singing to him as a small child. He always enjoyed singing. Although his voice did not lend itself well to the gruff sailing songs that were often sung on the Dawn Rider, the crew was amazed at the grace and beauty with which he sang, even at a young age. The crew had always thought of Keagan as a son (most having no family of their own)and did all that they could to encourage his talent for music.

When Keagan was 9, the ships cook (one-eyed Bill)presented him with a small flute that he had acquired on shore leave. Keagan taught himself to play in short order, and the crew convinced a certain Lady of the Evening they ALL knew to teach him to read music.

By the age of 12, Keagan was turning a little extra coin singing and playing in the various taverns frequented by the crew.

For his fifteenth birthday, Derimoor presented Keagan with his most prized possession; a finely crafted Elven Mandolin. He took to it like a fish to water.

Leaving Home

At the age of 19, while wandering a busy marketplace with Derimoor, Keagan witnessed a beggar being beaten savagely by a Nobleman's entourage. Derimoor attempted to intervene and was rewarded for his kindness with a mortal blow. The nobleman and his entourage rode away laughing, while Keagan attempted to aid his dying friend. With his last gasping breaths, Derimoor revealed to Keagan the tumulus story of his birth and presented him with the family signet ring.

Deeply troubled by the death of his dear friend (and apparently uncle), as well as being saddened by years of watching his father struggle, only to pay much of his profits in protection money. Keagan set out into the world, with high hopes of righting the many wrongs he had seen.

Feats of Interest:

Weapon Finesse, Acrobatic, Agile, perhaps Leadership (having been raised by a pirate captain =), negotiator, persuasive.

Classes of Interest:

Keagen will probably be happy as a bard. However, Dragon Disciple DMG p.183 may be of interest, and Dread Pirate CA p.39(or not so Dread =) Would be an option if it serves the groups needs.
