Fate Points
From Toosigma
Description
This will work similar to our old Action Point rules - spend a point to either re-roll any roll (d20 or damage), or spend a point to break the rules in some cool way. I plan to expand the list slightly by allowing a point to gain healing as if a using a healing surge (but not cost) - usable once per encounter. The name change is primarily to distinguish the mechanic from the new 4E Action Point system (which will be played exactly as presented in the book). Points will be earned in the following ways:
- Attending a session - 1 Point
- Writing a Bullet-list summary of a session - 1 point
- Writing an in-character session summary - 2 points
- Writing other in-character stories/background - Variable
I'm also open to suggestions - anything that makes my job as DM easier is probably going to be worth something. Fate Points never "expire" - so you can accumulate a fairly sizable collection if you do lots of collecting and little/no spending.
Rationale
The idea behind this mechanic is to encourage player participation in the world and the game outside of the scheduled sessions. I've found that when player enthusiasm and participation is high, my own enthusiasm is increased. When my enthusiasm goes up, the quality of the game goes with it - eventually becoming a self-reinforcing spiral to awesomeness.
