Arranvar was born in the Shadow Marshes 13 years before the Day of Mourning to a young elf woman named Nya. Nya had lived for twenty two years in the small fortified village on the edge of the forest. The small community of elves, half-elves, and servants were guarded by orcs from the other of the more dangerous beings of the Shadow Marshes. The families in the village always kept a keen eye on Arranvar and his mother. Arranvar could barely do anything by himself as he grew up. The town and forest guardians never left Arranvar alone although an old orc druid did take interesting notice of Arranvar who seemed to have the natural abilities of a budding druid. There was always something more to what the old orc saw in Arravar and what he showed the young kid.

Over time Arranvar developed a love of plants and animals especially those outside the walls of the village. He longed to be out. When Arranvar turned 12, Nya began fell ill with a wasting disease. Every day she grew weaker and weaker as her body withered and failed her. Her mind began to fade and the day before Arranvar's 13th birthday, Nya smiled at her son then fell into a coma.

The weather that evening and into the day was nothing but rain and storms. Arranvar felt ill all day and his head pulsed with pain. At the very moment of his birth he fainted onto his bed. Thousands of miles away the earth and the world in Cyre was exploding with gray hungry mist eradicating the life and burning from the earth in unnatural and devastating magics.

When he awoke, his mother was looking down on him and absorbing the sweat off his drenched head. Her looked concerned him but he was so happy to see her he forgot instantly that he was even feeling badly. After a few days he recovered but the curious and concerned elders of the village who seemed to be around him and his mother much more than ever before.
