Session Logs
- Session 11: Thunderspire Mountain
Al's travelled to Thunderspire Mountain and visited the Seven Pillared Hall, seeking arcane lore. Upon arriving, he sought out the Mages of Saruun, having heard of them by reputation. Eventually he receive an audience with Orontor, who offers him a reward for information pertaining to the traitor mage Paldemar. After some extensive searching, and tracking some of Paldemar's lackeys to a secret entrance deep within the labyrinth. He managed to learn that the only way through the door is by means of a silver key, which Paldemar has entrusted to his ally, Maldrick Scarmaker, chieftain of the Blackfang Gnolls. He discerned Maldrick's location to be the Well of Demons, and also encountered a wandering drunkard of a priest, who was seeking his wayward companions. Figuring he (or his allies) might come in handy convincing Maldrick to part with his trust, the two of you managed to make your way to the Well of Demons

The map the party found in Paldemar’s possessions showed a glowing pyramid within a lush forest, about a week’s travel north. Notes scribbled on the side of the map indicated vast magic for the taking in a place of power. Obviously the rest of the group had their own reason’s for traveling to the map’s location, but the promise of powerful magic to uncover was good enough for Al’lanon, so he decided to join them although they seemed suspicious of his seemingly fatuous accompaniment. His aloofness & tendency to keep to himself during an uneventful week of travel didn’t engender him to the group any better. The party happened upon a sudden clearing within the dense forest during the middle of their seventh day that unnerved Al for some reason. Actually, they all seemed to feel “it”. Without warning a group of bandit humans & dwarves came out of the underbrush hurling weapons with a Rage Drake at the head of the charge. The Drake went down fairly quickly but Al found himself flanked by the dwarves who pummeled him unconscious. Although close to death, Julian managed to reach him to lay hands upon Al. “Don’t think this means we’re dating or anything”, Al sneered, “but thanks”. After mopping up the rest of the ambushers, a ghostly image appeared in the midst of the group. The phantom seamed to be a Teifling man in robes & it greeted them. A small pyramid also appeared among the rocks in the center of the clearing. Al was ready to start scalping dwarves when Tinvertin grabbed the pyramid (“#@?* midget!”, Al’lanon cursed inwardly) & it expanded (or the group contracted) & everyone fell into it as the apparition laughed melodramatically. The party appeared in a pit full of corpses (“Not so bad”, Al thought to himself, “though he could do without the stench”) with something moving underneath & a two-headed giant with two blades grinning eagerly at them. Discretion being the better part of valor, (& not being valorous at all) Al brought down his darkness & hightailed it out of the pit towards the corner of the chamber. His magic seemed to avail him not against the carrion crawlers that had burst from beneath the dead bodies & the Ettin (whom he magic missiled in each face) that seemed to have taken a particular liking to his “pretty head”. He barely managed to slip behind the halfling (Tinvertin) that had popped into existence in front of him, & turn invisible as the rest of the warriors dealt with the beast. Suddenly, a woman’s voice called out to the group from an adjoining alcove. Upon inspection, they found several decapitated heads & an artifact orb with an Eladrin female’s head “inside” it. It was the orb that had called. Finndo went straight for the orb & it seemed to take a liking to him (#@?* stuck up Eladrin). Al wanted it as well, but he was sure the party would defend their pet caster should he object. Besides, he needed them if he was going to make it out of here alive. So as not to leave empty handed, he took the other heads. Tinvertin started scouting down the other hallways as the party caught its breath. Finndo had the bright idea to do some scouting on his own & alerted some nasty harpies across a bridge spanning a pool to our presence. Everyone rushed towards the Hellock’s aid after hearing screeches (from the monsters, not Finndo). Al only managed to get off a couple magic missiles from within his darkness when a song of such alluring beauty compelled him to walk into the room & fall into the water. He finally shook off its effects & scrambled out of the pool towards the Sahuagin priest. At that point, the battle had been a forgone conclusion in the party’s favor. Al’lanon decided to keep the fish men’s teeth as trophies…
Background
Al was captured to be a slave at a young age. Inadvertantly freed by a group of adventurer's, he wandered into an Eladrin settlement in Myth Drannor. They took pity on the youth but soon ostracized him. He now seeks his birth family.
Personality Traits
Al is murderously pragmatic. He never(?) shows any outward emotion & sees everything & everyone in terms of resources. He's coldly logical & has no patience for emotions or social gentility. He's a survivor plain & simple. This covers up his desperate wish for companionship. He doesn't believe he will ever be loved (or is worthy) so he won't ever try.
Mannerisms & Appearance
Allanon is a genetic giant (6'8"). He's also imposibly thin (178lbs), although well muscled. His hair is haphazardly cut as if he just hacked at it with a knife. Al's spellscar manifests as an ugly jagged tear down the left of his face. Al likes to dress in dark leather with chains (or spikes). He supplements this with little sylvan trinkets. He's fascinated by dead things & collects trophies from his kills (he claims his mask is the skull of an ogre he killed).
Companions & Allies
Al is friends (if anyone is his friend) with a Pseudodragon he's named Sylvanos. He had a brief romantic interlude with a woman he found later to be a weretiger.
